Question.

I'm looking on the Internet for a source of Service Access Point Ethernet addresses, multicast and manufacturer's Ehternet network interface card addresses. Do you know where I might be able to find these?

Answer.

Yes. Using Gopher or anoymous FTP, make your way to the URL ftp.lcs.mit.edu and look in the /pub/map/EtherNet-codes directory, says Wayne Spivak, president of SBA.NET.WEB, an Internet and World-Wide Web consulting firm in Bellmore, N.Y. Here, you'll fin d a collection of files that include IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet-type codes, vendor codes and the use of multicast (including broadcast) addresses.

There's also an interesting site on the Web that contains information such as a drawing of the first Ethernet system by its inventor, Robert Metcalfe, to reference guides about 10M and 100M bit/sec Ethernet. To get to the site, jump to http://www.ots.ute xas.edu/ethernet/.
